The Hermagor Mühlbach trauma
When the millstream dried up and the Citizens' Initiative was at the end of her rope after many years of commitment, artists from near and far tried to bring the millstream back to life through symbolic deeds. But alas... As we stare into the empty streambed, gradually overgrown by plants and decaying, we say to ourselves, "It's just sleeping, it's not dead!"
Admittedly, the millstream can neither be saved by prayers nor by complaints, neither by petitions nor by Artwork and poems be brought back to life. The millstream has become a matter of politics. And the path of politics is a long one, so they say.
Instead of waiting helplessly, however, we decided to continue to keep our eyes on the recreational areas in and around Hermagor. Soon there was a new problem child. The dreary end for the Mühlbach was followed by an energetic protest against the misappropriation and disfigurement of the Schützenpark. The old tree population, which is particularly vigorous, is also endangered.
And now...?
The citizens' initiative keeps in touch with the mayor to stay informed about the Mühlbach and the new problem child Schützenpark. Un dhere on this website there is still a open petition for the millstream. Unfortunately, more is not possible. But it is going much too slowly. For some residents, who had always lived with the Mühlbach, the absence of the brook is almost unbearable day after day. The concern for the Schützenpark is not fine either. In this already so difficult time we long so much for good news and a development for the positive.
But the Mühlbach is only one of the victims of misguided policies of the past, and the Schützenpark is not the only endangered (and for years neglected) further natural or cultural jewel. Anyone who walks through Hermagor with his eyes open will recognize how all liveliness and coziness is gradually giving way. Even the adornment with sumsis and Easter bunnies, although nice, and the seating in front of the stores and inns cannot hide this fact.
Planning on the drawing board has its function, but can also be excessive, can also miss the needs of the people and the character of nature. You can give a place a bit more soul with sensitivity, but you can also deprive it of all positive charisma. You don't see happy, laughing, playing children, but where would the children play? Hardly any people sit down to chat anymore - but where should they sit down? What is incomprehensible, there are many who have knowledge of how to build, garden, create a healthy living environment in harmony with nature... So what is going on here?
A question of consideration
There is a choice (which also means that the shaping of the townscape and the careful treatment of nature is also the responsibility of each inhabitant and not of politics alone!) One can watch with horror how a place loses more and more of its naturalness, how it is robbed of its green spaces, how everything is sacrificed for profit. But one can also go into oneself and begin to question what is probably the cause of all this happening. Of course, this is not so easy and sometimes a painful process of realization. It is all very complex, and therefore it can not be discussed here in more detail and can only be a food for thought. Every event can have different backgrounds. The children don't play anymore either, because... With a little thinking, you can find many reasons, can't you? Finally, one recognizes that a big ideological gap goes like a crack through the whole mankind, not only in the small town Hermagor.
If we leave our comfort zone and find out what has triggered an illness in us, we are on the best path to healing. It is similar with a society that is not intact, but also with interference fields in the landscape. So it is necessary to feel into what has led to all this imbalance, why we do not feel comfortable in some places, what has led to such a disregard for nature.
Recognition is the seed of healing.
Geoculture Hermagor - Workshop Wonder World Hermagor on 9.4.2022
The project Geoculture Hermagor, described in detail elsewhere (https://gailtalakademie.wordpress.com/konzepte-und-projekte/geomantieprojekt-hermagor/), is to contribute to the fact that nature (and thus also ourselves as part of nature) is given more mindfulness again. It is a process of cognition and it is a reconnection, it is an exciting experience and it is a bit of self-healing. Hard to describe. It is practical knowledge and wants to be felt, experienced. As an introduction to this topic, which may be new territory for many, Gudrun Kargl, artist and geoculturist, has offered, at the invitation of a collective from the district, the workshop "Wonder World Hermagor - Experience Landscape" to design.
This workshop in nature will take place on Saturday, April 9, 2022, in Hermagor takes place. Meeting place is the Schützenpark. In this last green oasis in the city area of Hermagors Gudrun Kargl has participated in the previous year in the art project PRO millstream involved.
A note on geoculture
This offer has nothing to do with our Hermagor project!
